Beef & Broccoli

This is my favorite recipe of the three I created to go with my Garlic Chuck Roast.  It comes together in less than 20 minutes and is even better the next day.  My wife and I eat a portion for dinner with rice and enjoy the rest the next day for lunch.

2-4 servings

2 tablespoons avocado oil (or other cooking oil)

1 ½ cups sliced onion

3 cups chopped broccoli

1 tablespoon cold water

1 ½ cups shredded beef (Garlic Beef Recipe)


¼ cup tamari, coconut aminos or soy sauce

2 tablespoons coconut sugar

½ teaspoon ginger powder

1 teaspoon garlic granules or powder

1 teaspoon fish sauce

1 teaspoon sambal

1 tablespoon arrowroot powder or cornstarch

2 tablespoons cold water

2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil

Toppings (optional):

Toasted sesame seeds, sliced green onions, extra sambal.

Heat a wok or large frying pan over medium/high heat.  Add  avocado oil and allow the cooking oil to heat for about 30 second.  Add the sliced onion.  Cook onion for 2 to 3 minutes until onions have slightly browned.  Add the chopped broccoli and stir into onions. Set heat to medium.  While the broccoli cooks make your sauce.

Add tamari, coconut sugar, ginger, garlic, fish sauce, sambal into a small bowl.  Whisk in arrowroot powder until mixed thoroughly.  Set aside.

Pour 1 tablespoon of water over broccoli and allow to steam for 1 to 2 minutes.  Add the shredded beef and mix.  Add the sauce and mix.  Add 2 tablespoons of water and stir into beef & broccoli.

Turn off heat.  Stir in toast sesame oil.  Top with sesame seeds.


Replace tamari with soy sauce or coconut aminos.  If using coconut aminos, add ½ teaspoon of salt to the sauce.

Season lightly with salt and pepper along the way, each time you add a new ingredient.  It helps increase the depth of flavor in the dish.
